One of the most popular games in casinos worldwide is blackjack or 21, a card game generally using 6 decks of cards against a dealer with the object to get as close to 21 without going over.
The earliest mention of the game of 21 seems to be in 18th century France where is was known as Vingt-et-un, later travelling to America with French colonists to New Orleans and afterwards throughout the states.
There is some debate how it got the name blackjack but one of the most popular is that in Evansville , Indiana in the early 1900s the gambling dens would pay out various bonuses , one of them was if a player gets an ace and a black jack ( clubs or spades) on the first 2 cards they would receive an extra payout of up to 10 x the stake. Even though the bonuses are no more the name stuck!
